Continuing professional development (CPD) is how occupational therapists maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence. CPD is an important component in the continued provision of safe and effective services.
All practising occupational therapists must undertake CPD.
Registration standards define the requirements that applicants and registrants need to meet to be registered.
The Board completed a review of the Registration standard: Continuing professional development in 2019. The revised registration standard took effect on 1 December 2019 and is published below. For more information about the revised standard please read the news item.

The Board’s Guidelines: Continuing Professional Development assist occupational therapists to meet the Board’s CPD registration standard. The revised Guidelines: Continuing Professional Development is published below and took effect from 1 December 2019.
Additional documents supplement the Registration standard: Continuing professional development by providing further information regarding the expectations of the Board. These documents should be read in conjunction with the current CPD standard and CPD guidelines.
All supporting documents are currently being reviewed to align with the content of the revised CPD registration standard and the revised CPD guidelines.
