Occupational therapists mark National Close the Gap Day

19 Mar 2020

In honouring National Close the Gap Day, the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (The Board) recognises the need to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes every day.

Julie Brayshaw, Board Chair and Co-Chair of the National Scheme’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Strategy Group said, ‘Improving health outcomes and workforce participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples is a big focus of the Board. We have a responsibility to improve cultural safety in health care. The Board supports the vision outlined in the recently released National Scheme’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Cultural safety Strategy 2020-2025.'

The Board is working in partnership with Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) to make improvements across the profession. Embedding cultural safety in the new Australian occupational therapy competency standards is an important example of this.
